When it come to implementing a QR Code Campaign, don’t create an overly sophisticated URL to embed in the QR Code. In the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon episode a QR code Easter egg was used with an overly sophisticated long URL (http://latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/blogs/2011/04/fallon-colbert-project-bonus-video-thank-you/) to a landing page that was not optimized for mobile.
How to Improve the QR Code and Execution
Embed a short URL into the QR code, avoid using the long URL of the landing page. Most URL shorteners will provide basic analytics to track the open rate of the short URL.
The QR Code with the shortened URL will be easier to scan than the original QR code with the un-shortened link.
